Today, our main focus is on the ESD tools used in the Kingtech LCD manufacturing process.
What is ESD?
ESD occurs when static electricity, which rests on the surface of objects like insulators, causes sparks and sounds upon contact. It’s a common phenomenon in our daily lives, especially in winter when combing hair, taking off clothes, or touching the door knob.
The Harm of ESD
ESD can lead to disasters and pose a significant threat to LCD displays. It can directly damage ICs and other components. Severe damage makes the display irreparable, while minor damage requires costly and time-consuming repairs. The best approach is to prevent ESD through standard operations and tools.
ESD Tools
- Workshop: Before entering the workshop, workers are strictly required to wear anti-ESD work suitsand grounded shoes. Anti-static mats are placed in the workshop, and aisle marking tape on the floor defines the ESD Protected Area. During operations, workers must wear wrist bands and ESD-safe gloves.
These measures create a controlled environment that minimizes the risk of ESD.
- Packing for Shipping: For samplespack, LCD displays are placed in ESD-safe bags. For mass production pack, they are put into thick plastic trays with foam fillings.

- Areas for Improvement: As ESD can occur anytime and anywhere, in addition to our own prevention strategies, we also need to instill the awareness of the importance of anti-ESD. For instance, we can offer anti-ESD reminders to our customers, such as adding anti-ESD signs and labels, and providing a standard operation manual.
Conclusion
To safeguard LCD displays from ESD damage, it’s essential to make workers aware of the consequences, emphasize the significance of anti-ESD measures, and fully utilize ESD tools.
